Of course I’m not saying you should put your head in the sand and walk around with a silly grin on your face all day. Just try smiling, and soon you will create an inner peace that at the very least helps someone else with their day.

1. If its money that you feel makes you happy, avoid situations that make you feel deprived- seek out situations where things are in your favor.

2.You may want to look at those negative thoughts a little closer. As they say, “step outside the box.” Then try a happier positive thought.

3.Gratitude: Research shows that daily affirmations of gratitude raises you’re level of happiness. Make your lists today of what you are grateful for, and say it daily.

4.Progress makes people feel better. Design your day so you have a feeling of progress. My father always liked to mow his grass so he could have instant gratification.

5. Studies show couples are happier and live longer than single people. Make friends and be a friend. Try to hangout with happy people. Get involved in helping out in your community.                                   

6.Try sending love or positive thoughts to people. Find something nice to say to others, not only will they fill better, you will too. Many people are  deprived of simple compliments. Make a heart happy today.

There are two ways in which imagery in hypnosis works to Improve Athletic Performance:

The subconscious mind is like a giant computer that directs all bodily behavior and automatically accepts any image it receives as real and true. According to the AOA (American Optometric Association), researchers have discovered that people use the same areas of the brain whether they actually perform or merely visualize an action in their mind. Studies conducted in 1998 by J. Stanos, a professor at Harvard University, have proven a definite link between visualization and performance. A group was taught how to use visualization and a placebo group was taught to just think about an unrelated activity. Those who used visualization before performing their task performed nearly perfectly, while the placebo group was only successful 55% of the time.

10 Tips For Overcoming Sleep Problems

Insomnia or Sleep Problems are more common that you might think.

One of the most common requests we have as hypnotists is for assistance with sleep disorders or insomnia. There are so many effective and efficient ways in which to overcome these types of problems through hypnosis that success can be as easy as inducing the hypnotic state and delivering your favorite suggestions for healthy, rejuvenating sleep. But there are many simple things a person can do to assist in the process of achieving fulfilling rest.  Following are the top 10 simple, yet effective, things you can do to reduce sleep problems or insomnia.

  1. Be Consistent – Going to bed and rising at the same time every day strengthens your internal clock. It will establish a habit of achieving sleep at regular times.
  2. Everything in Moderation – No matter how good it might feel to lie in bed for as long as possible, too much of a good thing is not good. Long periods spent in bed can lead to shallow and fragmented sleep.
  3. Get the Lead Out – Research shows that regular daily exercise promotes deeper more restorative sleep. Even light exercise such as a daily walk is very beneficial, just make sure not to exercise right before bedtime. It takes time to wind down from activity.
  4. Keep Your Cool – When the heat rises over 75 degrees it can lead to less REM sleep and more periods of waking. Cold rooms are no better; the ideal temperate for restful sleep is between 68 and 72 degrees.
  5. Let Them Eat Cake – Research shows that a light snack before turning in for the night tends to aid sleep. Be aware that heavy meals though will interfere with restful sleep.
  6. What the Doctor Ordered – On occasion, a sleep aid, whether over-the-counter or prescribed may be helpful, but be aware that regular use of sleep aids may promote dependency and actually increase problems. Use them only as a last resort.
  7. No Java Jive, No Butts About It – Cut out caffeine in the evening. Plain and simple, it disturbs sleep. Caffeine can be found in coffee, tea, colas, chocolate and many other sources so be aware. Tobacco use also disturbs sleep. If you are a smoker, consider hypnosis to free yourself of that old habit, but until you do, stay away from tobacco in the evenings.
  8. One for the Road – Cut out the nightcaps. While alcohol sometimes helps people fall asleep faster, the resulting chemically induced sleep is disrupted when the effects of alcohol begin to wear off.
  9. The Sound of Silence – People who sleep through anything can also have their sleep disrupted by noise or unusual sounds. Not waking up does not mean your sleep is not disturbed. Create an atmosphere insulated from outside sound or get a white noise machine to mask sounds. Even a small fan in the room can be effective.
  10. Kiss and Make Up – Never go to bed angry. Going to bed with work or worry on your mind is the perfect way to lose sleep. Always find time to resolve your day or clear your mind before you turn out the lights for the night. This is the perfect time to practice your self-hypnosis or listen to a relaxation recording.

On the year before my 40th birthday I found myself in a great deal of pain and constant bleeding. What was meant to be a week was going on for months, which lead me to an appointment with my doctor. I had not seen a doctor in many years. After the exam he said I needed to wrap my thoughts around having surgery as soon as possible. I said what are you doing tomorrow?  That got a laugh from him. I was sent to another doctor who just vaguely mentioned cancer. Tumors of unknown origins were found to be the cause of the pain, and were sending false signals to my body telling it to bleed, everything in my life began to change. The prognosis was not good. I was told that the tumors had to be removed. That it had spread throughout and was growing rapidly. Unfortunately the only way they could remove it was to perform a hysterectomy. The doctor said I had about two years to live otherwise. Well, that was a lot to accept. And I couldn’t accept it. I had a life to live and I new this was not Gods plan. I was young, yet suddenly my life was nearly over. I felt that I probably wouldn’t live through that surgery and if I did that I would die of depression anyway. There had to be another way! They did some testing and I was scheduled for my hysterectomy.

I was alone in my hospital room in the evening after being told that a tumor was growing in my body. My heart was open and I was feeling the beauty of the little lights twinkling out my window and appreciating the flowers that filled my room, and I knew that I was not alone. I knew then that I wanted to live and to heal my life. To heal all the pain that had brought me to this point. In the stillness of that moment, an inner voice told me that I was going to be okay, that I had important work to do…and to let it begin now. This message became the foundation for my faith.

After the surgery, the doctor said Kemo and Radiation is a must to live. I said no to the doctor and without even realizing what I was doing.  I went straight toward my inner mind, body and spirit to speed my healing. I became a spiritual warrior on a quest to heal my life. I felt that the pain and anger I carried in my heart had created this illness. I knew that I had to learn to love myself in a much greater way and to forgive myself and all others. I had a lot of spiritual support around me and my faith was strong. I asked that I be guided to the highest healing places for me and that I be allowed to live and to heal my life, so that I might be a living example of God’s great healing energy. And I was guided. I worked with some remarkable healers that helped me to gain a better understanding about illness and healing and about myself.

It was during this time I was guided to Hypnotherapy with a friend of mine, this time it was for my healing. With its gentle and powerful processes I was able to get to the heart of the matter quickly, which is what I needed. It helped me clear away the misperceptions that I carried about myself and others that caused me pain and suffering. It was a pathway that showed me how to love myself as I recovered and discovered lost parts of my Self, including the deepest and most divine places within me. Because I was in great need of healing, I was willing to do whatever it took to find a way to heal.

My biggest single breakthrough happened on a beautiful spring day. I remember how the colors and the fresh air and the beauty touched my awareness. Every breath I took was filled with gratitude, just for being alive and somehow knowing I was being guided. That day with hypnosis I was gently guided on a journey inside my body to meet that part of my body that had stored this illness. I was surprised to find a dark mass of black goop there. This moved me to tears because my image of the cancer was not what I expected. I had actually found a mass that fit my thoughts and image of the cancer, it was heavy and filled with anger and I ceremoniously smashed that mass to smithereens with a sledgehammer, demanding the cancer to leave my body.

When I met this dark mass something very different was evoked within me. I knew I was making progress, this was a much different and better image. My hypnotist guided me to speak with this mass that represented the tumor. To ask whatever questions I wanted to ask. The first question I asked was “Why did you come here?” The reply was, “I was asked to come here.” By whom? “By You. The young women you once were, Listen, she is here.” The little girl I met that day was frightened, lonely and indeed, abandoned. She was terribly frightened in so many ways; There was fear of abuse and abandonment, fear of others’ anger, and fear that she really didn’t deserve to be loved. I was so deeply moved by this child part of myself. How long she had been neglected? As I talked with her and tried to win her trust, I asked her how I could help. She said she wanted to be free…free to be herself and express love and joy as much as she could. But there had been so much fear and pain and anger that she didn’t know whether she could stand to live any longer. I found a strength and power within me that made a bold rescue of the little girl, and I made a vow to give her all the love, freedom, attention and healing that she needed. She was no longer abandoned and alone. I had recovered a part of myself that was essential to my healing.

Together we returned to speak with the tumor and I asked the dark black mass what is your name?” the reply was: “Anger.” This made me cry because that was the feeling I had when the doctor told me my fate, strong Anger. I asked, “Why did you come to me in this way?” The response changed my awareness forever. “I came to help you. You were needing to make important changes in your life that you were afraid to make on your own. I heard your call for help.” The dark mass tumor had come to help me! I cried as I came to realize and accept that this illness was here to teach me and to help me.

I made friends with the tumor that day and I made a connection with my inner child. These experiences changed the course of my life. From that moment on I wholeheartedly listened to the wisdom of the illness and I embraced my inner child. By loving her I have learned to love all of my Self, deeply, gently, with compassion and kindness and to release the past and to forgive those whom I had harbored such anger. I had found at last the inner strength and spiritual resources needed to make the necessary changes. Answers came from within me and I learned to trust myself and believe in myself. I made many changes in my life over those years.

*****2 years later the cancer was still completely gone. It has now been eighteen years since that day in the doctors office. My cancer remains in “remission”. More importantly, to this day that little girl is an integral part of my life and her new happiness fills my life with joy. The Poisoning of America

A big part of my Hypnosis practice is working with weight lose.  Below is an article, written by Gerald Kein, founder of Omni Hypnosis.  It is a powerful story about his personal battle with weight loss, heart attacks and other life-threatening illnesses … and his simple, yet miraculous return to health.  It is a my favorite story to share with clients … enjoy!

The Poisoning of America … The Truth Behind Obesity In Our Country

Without a doubt weight-loss seems to be one of the most difficult problems we face as hypnotists. There is no question that the population in the United States and other industrialized countries are becoming more obese every year. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the nutritionists and physicians are focusing their efforts in the wrong area. The food pyramid, which has been recommended for so many years, has been nothing but a big, fat lie. The reality of why we, as a society, are getting heavier is obvious and yet ignored. Let me give you a personal example.

On July 21, 1988, during a hypnosis session with a client, I suffered a severe heart attack which led to coronary bypass surgery. For the purpose of this article, the lifestyle that caused this attack is unimportant. The lifestyle that caused my second heart surgery in 1995 is critically important. Between 1988 and 1995 my physician placed me on a “Heart Smart” eating program. He not only instructed me to eat based on the food pyramid but also to eliminate 95% of my fat intake.

Trust me on this one, a heart attack is powerful motivation to follow your physician’s instructions. And I did! I cut back my fat intake to just about zero. I ate grains, vegetables, fruits and whatever else I was told was good for me. I also concentrated on portion control. I exercised according to a plan given to me by my physician. I was absolutely dedicated to this program. I truly wanted to live. The result of all this hard work and dedication was that I continued to get fat. My blood lipids were horrible. My triglycerides were over 800. My cholesterol was over to 275. It got so bad, in 1995 I once again, had to undergo triple bypass surgery. I could not understand what I was doing wrong.

Once more I was watching my diet, running on my treadmill, ingesting very small amounts of fat and using skim milk on my “healthy” cereal. I continued to get heavier and heavier. Finally, in December 2002, the straw that broke my camel’s back happened. I was getting dressed after my morning shower and happen to look sideways at myself in the mirror and I was shocked! My stomach had grown so big it was beginning to fold over itself. I knew if I didn’t find the answer to this condition I would be on the fast track to my final heart attack. I decided to take a few days off work in order to see if I could find the answer. I knew all the standard recommended practices for weight-loss were either impractical or, frankly, just didn’t work for me. There had to be another way.

Many of you saw me at the last convention and were startled by the amount of weight I had lost. I went from 190 pounds down to 155. This translated to a 35 pound reduction over a period of about seven months. I have continued to lose weight and should be at my goal weight of 150 in about another two to three months. I feel great, healthy and alive. I achieved this without any deprivation, starvation or even any exercise. The major downside is I have to buy an entire new wardrobe!

Let me tell you how I achieved such wonderful results and how hypnotists can incorporate this knowledge into their weight control sessions. It became obvious to me that several things had led, not only to my overweight condition, but to the growing obesity problem in this country. My research showed me that many minorities suffer a disproportionate amount of obesity. I also noticed that the youth of our nation are becoming heavier at younger ages than ever before.

Here’s my opinion of what happened to us. Prior to World War II, families would sit down and eat together for least two of the three meals a day. Mom made us eat our vegetables and made many wonderful home cook meals. In between meals, children were running and jumping, riding bicycles, climbing trees and walking great distances just as a matter of routine. Commercially prepared foods were pretty much nonexistent, except for Campbell Soup and a few canned vegetables. Our lifestyle burned up all the calories, fat and sugar that was ingested daily. Everything was in balance and harmony. Obesity was not a significant problem. Heart attack diagnosis was minimal and we were a much healthier society. Diabetes was statistically a non-problem.

After the Second World War, everything changed. Commercial food processors developed new prepackaged products at a frightening rate of speed. TV dinners, frozen food of all kinds, frozen pies filled the freezers in our stores. As years went by, it became harder and harder to discover anyone who knew how to cook a real vitamin filled meal.

Then came the advent of the computer. Instead of going out to run, play and jump after school our children sit on the couch playing video games or watching TV. We rapidly became a nation of fat, lazy, sedate, over eating, sugar addicted and motionless robots.

The Real Poison = SUGAR!!!

Poison, The medical definition: “Any substance applied to the body, ingested or developed within the body, which causes or may cause disease. Physically: Any substance which inhibits the activity of a catalyst which is a minor substance, chemical or enzyme that activates a reaction.

Dr. William Coda Martin classified refined sugar as a poison because it has been depleted of its life forces, vitamins and minerals. “What is left consists of pure, refined carbohydrates. The body cannot utilize this refined starch and carbohydrate unless the depleted proteins, vitamins and minerals are present. Nature supplies these elements in each plant in quantities sufficient to metabolize the carbohydrate in that particular plant. There is no excess for other added carbohydrates. Incomplete carbohydrate metabolism results in the formation of ‘toxic metabolite’; such as, pyretic acid and abnormal sugars containing five carbon atoms. Pyretic acid accumulates in the brain and nervous system and the abnormal sugars in the red blood cells. These toxic metabolites interfere with the respiration of the cells. They cannot get sufficient oxygen to survive and function normally. In time, some of the cells die. This interferes with the function of a part of the body and is the beginning of degenerative disease.

Refined sugar is lethal when ingested by humans because it provides only that which nutritionists describe as “empty” or “naked” calories. It lacks the natural minerals which are present in the sugar beet or cane. Processed Sugar…..The word itself should send tremors of fear throughout all of your mind and body! It meets all criteria in the definition of poison. Sugar is more addictive than cigarettes, morphine, heroin, oxicontent or any other narcotic. It has not only penetrated all levels of our society but most of the world.

Sugar has been packaged in just about everything we buy at the grocery store, the fast food restaurant, our schools and what we eat in our homes. Sugar growers and food producers, knowing how bad it is to our health, have tried to disguise it by giving it different names; such as, dextrose, fructose, corn syrup, barley malt, black strap molasses, brown rice sugar, dextrin, dextrose, disaccharide, galactose, glucose, glycerin, hexitol, lactose, maltodextrin, maltose, microcrystalline, natural sweeteners, polydextrose, raisin juice, sorghum, sucanet, sucrose and too many other names to continue. Call it what you want….it all meets the definition of poison and has addicted our world. The more of it we eat…the sicker, fatter and more stupid we become!

This is really amazing….We now know that 10 to 25%, depending on the brand, of cigarettes consists of sugar. Smokers are not addicted to nicotine…They are addicted to sugar! Every hypnosis stop smoking program should strongly address this addiction much more than any small nicotine component.

The word carbohydrate is nothing more than a word to define sugar in all its many additional and miscellaneous forms. The natural carbohydrates in food are not inherently bad in moderation. The man made carbohydrates found in processed food are deadly to us. In addition, we have been told that eating fat causes us to become fat. Nothing could be further from the truth. Fat is the perfect fuel for our bodies. The so called carbohydrate laden food pyramid, which is recommended by physicians, is what causes us to become fat and sick! Once in our bodies, manmade carbohydrates pass quickly through the stomach into the small intestine turn to sugar, processed into excess fat and stored in our bodies. When we ingest fat, it is rapidly converted by the stomach into the pure fuel we need to efficiently burn for good health.

Hello….testing 1…2…physicians and nutritionists need to read the data and studies now available. Stop poisoning people with the deadly “Food Pyramid!” Get yourself re-educated and become the true healers you want to be.

Because man made and processed carbohydrate foods are relatively cheap, economically disadvantaged people made them the major part of their diet and these people get heavier and sicker. With all the medical and nutritional data now available it is impossible to understand how the old food pyramid can still be said to be the way to eat by these purported authorities. If, as a people, we really desire to become healthy all we have to do is three simple things.

  1. Eliminate processed sugar from our diet.
  2. Practice portion control.
  3. Move our bodies (just a little).

That’s it…..There is no deep dark secret…..It IS that simple.

I went from 190 to 155 pounds. My blood lipids became better than perfect. Cholesterol from 275 to 105…Triglycerides from 800 to 110….bad LDL from 235 to 22. All of these blood quality changes took only two weeks merely by stopping eating processed sugar. Nothing more required. I didn’t exercise….I didn’t move my body very much. As my appetite diminished, I discovered eating very little caused me to feel stuffed.

Yes, in order to give up sugar, one must eliminate all processed food, pasta, white rice, potatoes and other starches. One must look for the hidden sugars in everything we eat. You must become a knowledgeable label reader. Many individuals will say things like “I could never give up pasta.” Or, “I can’t live without potatoes.” To those individuals I say you indeed have choices in what you eat and the quality of your health. You can chose to live to eat or chose to eat to live. I chose the latter. Like me, you will live or die based on the choices you make. Ask yourself; Is a mashed potato with gravy or a bowl of pasta worth a lifetime of injecting yourself with insulin, becoming obese, suffering low self-esteem or a heart attack?

How Sugar Hurts Us And Causes Obesity

The ways in which sugar hurts us is horrific. Let me list just a few wonderful benefits we receive by becoming a sugar addict.

Diabetes…Sugar is the leading cause of diabetes today. Take sugar out of most diabetics diet and all symptoms disappear or medication can be drastically reduced. I was a type 2 diabetic and now I take no medication and all symptoms are gone.

Obesity…Sugar addicts rapidly become very heavy in life. When you eat glucose (sugar) in great quantities it cannot be processed fast enough by the liver so it is converted into fat and initially stored in the buttocks, waist and stomach area. Then it gets stored in the artery walls and causes hardening of the arteries. Eliminate sugar and lose weight and open arteries.

Excessive Fatigue…Eliminate sugar and you will feel younger and more energetic than you have in many years.

Mental illness… Back in the late 1800’s Dr. Tinera discovered that if you remove sugar from the diet many so called mental illnesses just seem to disappear. Also, sugar seems to be the leading cause of schizophrenia. Dr. John Tinera and many others since, have stated that no one again, no one should ever undergo any type of psychotherapy without first having a five hour blood glucose test! He has shown that many mental and physical illnesses are cured by the elimination of sugar from the patient’s diet. Once more, eliminate sugar and feel better physically and mentally.

Heart Disease….Sugar stores itself in the arteries and eventually causes blockages. Blockages lead to death. About a year ago, I was told I had several non-operable blockages of two arteries in the rear of my heart. I was diagnosed at great risk of sudden cardiac death. I eliminated sugar, took three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar daily. A year later, my arteries are clean and unblocked. The physicians just can’t seem to figure that one out.

I could continue with many more diseases and the effects that sugar causes but I think you get the point. Processed sugar is your deadly enemy! Another interesting thought, back in the late 1800’s it was discovered that rich sugar processors who ate lots of their product got fat, diabetes, became ill with a variety of diseases and died early. The poor slaves who cut the sugar cane and chewed on the stalk never got diabetes or any other sugar related illness. There are many good vitamins and minerals in the un-processed sugar cane that are eliminated in the processing procedure.

Hypnosis and Weight Control

As I learned through extensive research and self-practice, losing weight is very simple in theory and slightly more difficult in practice. Sugar is a very strong addiction. It may be the most powerful addiction that the majority of our society faces. In order to succeed, there must be an absolute readiness for change. Two things create readiness for change pain and suffering. When there has been enough pain…enough suffering…then, and only then, will the required motivation to succeed exist. When the doctor told me to get my affairs in order, it instantly created my readiness for change.

Finally, without a doubt, sugar is one of the great evils in our world. It is destroying our youth, creating unheard of obesity and disease. With all sincerity, if I were the President of the United States, I would declare, through executive decree, that our country is suffering a national health emergency. I would declare the manufacture, sale, distribution or possession of processed sugar a first degree felony with penalties similar to any other capital case.

Would this ever happen? Of course not. The sugar processors have very deep pockets and people have a very strong sweet tooth. It’s a business, it’s nothing personal. They do not care about the public health. They just care about making money. So, the fat will continue to get fatter while saying, “I could never give up my pasta.” The ill will become more ill, while saying “Life without a potato…No way!” or “I’m a desert addict. I could never give up my sweets.” The rate of heart disease, diabetes, mental illness, will continue to grow. All this while the “licensed” gurus continue to say don’t eat fat….eat sugar (manmade carbohydrates.)

And it’s all un-necessary. Today we have at least two artificial sweeteners, splenda and stevia that can take the place of sugar completely without any negative consequences. We have the facts….We have our choices. We could still eat sweets and stay healthy.
